October 2024 Bulletin

Chair's Message

As we head into Fall, I’m happy to report that the Section is hard at work bringing benefits to our membership, and I want to highlight several of these initiatives.  We have some great CLEs and fun social events in the works, many of which will be done in partnership with other Sections.   We plan to publish the winter edition of the Voice, the Section’s newsletter, in January, and the Summer edition sometime in July.  We’ll also be holding public service panels at law schools throughout the State with the goal of encouraging law students to consider careers in public service and to get involved with the Florida Bar.

We could use your help on all these initiatives and more.   Please let us know if you’d like to assist with organizing a CLE, participate in a law school public service panel or contribute an article to the Voice.  Consider getting involved by joining a committee.  Check out the Section’s website for the committee list.  Feel free to reach out to the committee chairs for more information and to volunteer.

Finally, on behalf of our Section’s executive council, please know that our thoughts are with Section members impacted by the recent hurricanes.  We also want to express our gratitude to the many government lawyers who keep Floridians safe during these storms and help them recover afterwards.  Thank you for all that you do!

GLS Wellness Corner

Welcome to the new Wellness Corner!

Data shows a substantial percentage of lawyers experience mental health factors such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Drawing on resources provided by The Florida Bar, GLS plans to regularly provide techniques for evaluating and handling stress levels.

This week, we are highlighting one of the worksheets provided in the Well-Being Toolkit for Lawyers and Legal Employers compiled for use by the American Bar Association.  Worksheet 2, starting on page 49, focuses on six sources of well-being.

As always, please know that counseling is available at the Florida Lawyers Helpline at 833-351-9355 (833-FL1-WELL).
